Mental Health and the Family: New Developments

The programme for the Study Day on 10 th November is nearly finalised. The flyer and booking form are available. It will be exactly 7 days after the 2007 Mental Health Act- or at least parts of it- come into force so we will explore what it means for families. There will also be an opportunity to get up to date with the proliferation of Family pilot projects so you can tell your colleagues the difference between Family intervention projects, Family Pathfinder projects and Family Nurse Partnerships! We hope to see you there.

Revolving Doors Agency

Ever fancied being in a focus group. There is a unique chance to put your professional expertise to bear in a good cause. Revolving Doors Agency is looking for frontline practitioners to help some important research into how families can be helped most effectively.

Revolving Doors Agency would like to hear from practitioners about their experiences, views and attitudes towards working with families and partners of adult clients.

The research explores the Government's proposal that ALL services, statutory and voluntary, should “Think Family” when working with clients who are part of families with multiple and complex problems, such as mental health, substance use, homelessness and debt.

As practitioners at the front-end of services, you are in the best position to tell us:

We have prepared case studies on clients and their families for you to discuss with other practitioners.  Online focus groups will take place at 8pm on the following dates: Monday 27th October, Tuesday 28th October, Wednesday 29th October and Thursday 29th October. Face-to-face focus groups will take place on Tuesday 4th November and Thursday 6th November at a location TBC.

You can participate in an online focus group from any location where you have access to a computer and the internet. They take place in a chat room at a specified time with a facilitator online who will ask questions and guide discussion. Face-to-face focus groups will be held in a location central to those who are interested in attending and refreshments will be provided. Travel expenses will be reimbursed. Each focus group will last around an hour and a half and you will receive a payment as thanks for taking part.

If you would like to take part or have any questions about the research, contact Lauren Herlitz: Tel: 020 7553 6069
