Parental Mental Health and Child Welfare Network -
SCIE Social Care TV and Parental mental health and child welfare
Three new films bringing to life stories of families experiencing problems relating to mental health difficulties. These include ‘Wendy’ talking about her experiences as a mum trying to cope with living in one room with four children and developing postnatal depression, and the difference that a holistic response and getting access to services in her local area (Lewisham, London) made to her. Lewisham is fortunate in having a local Building Bridges project including a multi-agency perinatal service which takes referrals from across the board and works with families as early as possible to strengthen their skills and offer support to the children as well as parents.
The second film has Cait talking about having been effectively a young carer for her mum since the age of seven when her mum’s mental health deteriorated and what it was like for her after a worker asked some relevant questions and referred her to Barnados Action for Young Carers project. This film has PMHCWN’s longstanding activist Louise Wardale on top form explaining about strategic developments in Liverpool and how they have bridged gaps between children’s and adults’ services.
The third film has another PMHCWN steering group star Rose de Paeztron facilitating a lively discussion between practitioners about the scenarios and what training and skills are needed to make a difference by thinking and acting family.
